What we do

In the Foundation Stage we ensure...

  • A broad and balanced curriculum that gives them the broad range of knowledge and skills needed for good progress through school and life.
  • Quality and consistency in teaching and learning so that every child makes good progress and no child gets left behind.
  • Close partnerships with parents and/or carers.
  • Every child is included and supported through equality of opportunity.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the area of education upon which young children build the rest of their lives. It is a single framework for care, learning and development. All learners are given the opportunity to experience the best possible start to their education and develop solid foundations which will ensure that they flourish throughout their school years and on into adulthood.

Our approach to the curriculum is ‘hands-on’ and play based, using both the indoors and outdoors.  Please make sure that your child comes to school with clothing that is named and allows for the changeable weather.

The key skills that are taught within the Early Years are those of listening, speaking, concentration, persistence, co-operation, literacy, maths, questioning and creativity.

Rich, stimulating and appropriate experiences provide each child with opportunities to develop these skills, their competencies and their thinking to the best of their ability across all areas of learning.

Communicating with Parents/Carers

Teachers and teaching assistants are always will to make time to talk with you about your child’s progress and what they are doing at school.  However, as a school, we also have a system called WEDUC.  This is an app you will be able to download once your child has been admitted to school.  It will allow you and your child’s class teacher to keep in touch.  This system is also how you will easily keep up-to-date with what is happening in school.

Homework, artists and school trips

Each half term your child will be given a sheet with a range of creative homework tasks for you to complete together.

Throughout the year your child will have the opportunity to work with different artists and go on a range of educational visits.  Additionally information will be given to you each time something has been arranged.
