Big Writing : the importance of talking
Each week in school, all children from Year 1 to Year 6 take part in Big Writing.
Big Writing involves a high energy VCOP session when children practise their Vocabulary, Conjunctions, Openers and Punctuation skills.
This then leads into a quiet writing session when the children put their skills into practice.
As mentioned in the homework section, talking is so important if children are going to write well. In order for you to support your child with their Big Writing session each week, your child will bring home a slip of paper about the Big Writing task their class will be doing. Each year group has a different idea linking to the writing they will be doing. Please talk through this idea with your child to help them think about the piece of writing they will complete in school. The more you can help them talk about what they will write, the easier they will find the task in school.
Big Writing happens in school towards the end of the week – either Thursday or Friday – and you will receive the information the day before. We hope this information is useful. If you have any other questions, please ask your child’s class teacher.
